Square Louise Michel History
Dramatically positioned at the foot of the iconic domed Basilique du Sacré-Cœur, this popular outdoor park is perhaps best known for its 222 steps, which lead visitors up Montmartre Hill. The square and the gardens were established in 1927 and remain one of the most popular tourist hot-spots in Paris.
At one end, you are surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere of Paris’ artistic quarter, where street artists display their works and visitors can commission a quick sketch portrait. At the other end, as you reach the summit of Montmartre Hill, you can stand at the foot of the beautiful basilica and look out over the entire city.
